Terroir
Natural factors
- Limestone deposits at depths of up to 0.80 m and soils rich in iron and magnesium, formed over calcare and calcareous gresie.
- Brun-roșcat soils over calcare and calcareous gresie promote anthocyanin accumulation and impart a long mineral finish to red wines.
Human factors
- Documented as a viticultural area in Dobrogea; vineyards established in 1975–1980, grubbed up in 2000–2001 and replanted with noble varieties.
- Mixed pruning practiced on moderately sloping terraces, without leaf removal, with only one light shoot-trimming in July–August.
Product characteristics
- Red wines: ruby/violet red, aromas of smoked plums, black fruits, pepper, roasted almond, and black cherries; velvety tannins and a long finish.
- White wines: straw/greenish-yellow colour, aromas of lemon blossom, pineapple, and banana; mineral nuances derived from rendzina and cernoziom-like regosol soils.
