Natural factors
- Substratum dominated by granites of the "Hercynian crystalline Corsica" formation, with sandy-gravelly, poor, dry, and free-draining soils.
- Light soils with low water-holding capacity: sandy-gravelly over little-altered granitic arène, poor and free-draining.
- A zone of 36 communes in the département of Corse-du-Sud, from the Gulf of Porto to that of Valinco, from Cargèse to Casalabriva.
- Strongly maritime Mediterranean climate, the sunniest area of Corsica (2,728 hours/year), moderated by the Maestrale, Tramontane, and Libecciu. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
Human factors
- The AOC "Ajaccio" was recognised on 3 April 1984, following a reduction from 85 to 36 communes and the retention of indigenous grape varieties. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- A vineyard established under Roman influence, planted on hillsides at some of the highest elevations in Corsica.
Product characteristics
- Reds: a brilliant, medium-intensity colour, discreet tannins, aromas of small red fruits, blackcurrant, almond, and spice; ageing potential of 4–6 years.
