Natural factors
- Dominant soils of Messinian age (Miocene epoch): pale yellow marne with calcareous lenses, in the communes of Montescano, Castana, Canneto Pavese, Pietra de' Giorgi, and Cigognola.
- Terraced alluvial deposits along the foothill belt from Broni to Stradella: loose clastic sediments of heterogeneous grain size, forming the transition zone between plain and hill.
- A zone of complex lithology (arenarie, marne, limestone, argille, and gypsiferous conglomerates) outcropping between Pietra de' Giorgi, Montescano, Broni, and Stradella.
- Pre-Apennine orography with valleys oriented south to north; mean annual solar radiation between 2,250 and 3,000 MJ/m² on the hillside slopes.
Product characteristics
- Bright ruby red in color with violet highlights, with prickle and foam in the frizzante version. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Penetrating bouquet with notes of liquorice and blackcurrant jam; full-bodied, round, and robust on the palate. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
