Terroir
Natural factors
- A glacial moraine amphitheater formed by sediments deposited by the Dora Baltea glacier, which once covered the Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa massifs.
- The amphitheater's semicircular shape is defined by the Serra d'Ivrea ridge to the NE (600 m) and the Agliè-Caluso hill to the SW (300 m).
- A mild microclimate, kept in balance by the Dora Baltea, the Orco river, and the numerous lakes scattered across the flat basin.
- Constant ventilation from the Aosta Valley Alps and marked diurnal/nocturnal temperature swings during the pre-harvest period.
- Moraine soils rich in mineral salts impart high acidity, savouriness, and a low polyphenolic content to the wines.
Terroir / wine link
