Terroir
Natural factors
- Geological core in «macigno»: graded quarzose-felspathic arenarie of Oligocene age, Apennine fold structure.
- NE-facing slope covered by scaly argille: argillaceous scisti with blocks of limestone, arenarie, and ophiolitic breccias.
- Vineyards rarely above 300 m a.s.l.: long vegetative period, heat accumulation, and complete ripening even in less favorable vintages.
Product characteristics
- Soils derived from arenarie (loose, sandy loam, sub-acid) and from argille/marly calcare (clay loam, neutral to sub-alkaline) shape the ripening of the grapes.
- Cool Apennine winds during summer nights generate diurnal temperature variation that promotes complete and even ripening of the grapes even in less favorable vintages.
Terroir / wine link
- The sparse slopes above 300 m, well-exposed to sunlight, favor regular and complete ripening even in less favorable vintages.
