Terroir
Natural factors
- Dominant soils: Pleistocene alluvial deposits with reddish weathering (Montebello, Torrazza Coste, part of Casteggio).
- Southern and eastern margins on Tertiary marine formations: argillaceous marne, arenarie, and grey-blue marly argille.
- Presence of the 'Formazione della Fontana di Annibale': arenaria bearing macrofossils, calcified wood, and pine cones, linked to a spring resurgence.
- Pedolandscape Unit 62: predominantly calcare, marne, and calcareous arenarie; rainfall 700–800 mm/year; elevations 100–600 m.
- The hill range opens northward onto the Pianura Padana; valleys with a predominantly south-to-north orientation dissect the territory.
Terroir / wine link
- Soils of dual parentage: reddish Pleistocene alluvial deposits to the north and Tertiary marine formations (marne, arenarie, argille) to the south and east, creating a complex geological mosaic.
