Natural factors
- Pronounced orography: mountainous interior separated from a narrow coastal plain; mean altitude 300 m.
- Loam-textured soils, brown-calcareous over unconsolidated material; also brown soils over hard limestones.
- Predominance of rodeno sandstone and granites in the lithological composition of the viticultural soils.
- Mean annual rainfall ~540 l/m²; highest in October (85 l/m²), lowest in June (15 l/m²).
- Continental interior: minimum temperatures below 0 °C in February, March, and November; coastal areas with a mild thermal regime.
Human factors
- Autochthonous long-cycle Garnacha tinta: at low yields it delivers red and black fruit with good acidity.
- Cabernet Sauvignon ripens well without losing freshness; Merlot yields a generous, approachable character.
Product characteristics
- Deep colour and high chromatic intensity; concentrated sugars and well-balanced total acidity.
