Natural factors
- Jurassic and Cenomanian Cretaceous bedrock; clay-limestone or sandy soils: Rouen chalk, green clays, sables du Perche.
- Presence of clay-with-flints (decalcification of the chalk mantle), sometimes covered by plateau silts; generally well-drained.
- Degraded oceanic climate: up to 60 frost days per year, late frosts common in May–June, with a continental influence to the east.
