- Tuffaceous cliff and plateau in the Valle del Tevere, hilly territory featuring argillaceous calanchi with a characteristic lunar appearance.
- Vineyards between 72 and 365 m a.s.l., with predominantly east and south-east-facing exposures.
- Temperate hill climate with annual rainfall between 775 and 1,214 mm and mild summer aridity in July and August.
- Mean temperatures between 12.4 and 13.8 °C; prolonged cold from October to May, with the coldest month's minimum between 1.9 and 2.9 °C.
Human factors
- Traditional varieties already documented in 1883: Verdello, Procanico, and Grechetto (white) and Aleatico (red), still part of the IGT ampelographic base.
- Etruscan roots of local viticulture: as early as 540–530 BC, vineyards in the area were supplying a significant external trade.
