- Soils developed on alluvial deposits, Villafranchian sands, and Miocene marne and arenarie, with slopes of up to 30% and beyond.
- Soils for viticulture ranging from shallow to moderately deep, with loam/silt-loam/clay-loam texture, good calcare content, and sub-alkaline reaction.
- Soils taxonomically classified as Entisols and Inceptisols (Soil Survey Staff, 2010), trending toward brunification.
- Vineyards ranging from the valley floor (excluded from the DOC) up to 550 m a.s.l., in the north-central part of Umbria, in the province of Perugia.
- Mean annual rainfall 800–950 mm; mean maximum summer temperatures around 32 °C.
