Natural factors
- Delimited zone between the Panaro river (west) and the Idice stream (east), crossed by the Reno and the Samoggia and Lavino torrents.
- "Contrafforti e Rupi" landscape: stratified Pliocene and epiligurian arenaria with subordinate marne and conglomerates, steeply sloping hillsides.
- "Colli con Frane e Calanchi" landscape (south-west): substrate of chaotic Argille Scagliose with calcareous, arenaceous, and marly inclusions; widespread landslide instability.
- Valley floors and alluvial fans: poorly developed soils from coarse materials; terraces with highly developed paleosoils along the Apennine margins.
Terroir / wine link
- Soils on Pliocene and epiligurian arenaria on steeply sloping hillsides impart structure to the wines of the Contrafforti e Rupi.
Facts drawn from the cahier's terroir-link section (Lien au terroir) by automatic interpretation — see the source.
