Natural factors
- Shallow hillside soils on hard or arenaceous rock; the more developed ones are calcareous and clayey.
- In the valley floors (50–100 m a.s.l.) the soils on the terraces are differentiated, deep, calcium-saturated but non-calcareous, with argille illuviation horizons.
- Hill climate with a mean temperature of ~14 °C and precipitation of ~800 mm/year with a regular seasonal distribution.
- The zone encompasses the basins of the Metauro and Foglia rivers, extending to the Monte San Bartolo headland overlooking the sea.
