Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils originating from uplifted marine beds, subsequently reworked by glaciers and rivers: arenaria and marne predominate, alternating with morene and alluvial layers.
- North–south-oriented hilly ridges to the south and east–west to the north, separated by valleys with small watercourses.
- The pre-Alpine chain to the north acts as a barrier against cold air masses; to the south, the thermally moderating influence of the Venice lagoon, some 40 km away.
- Temperate climate with marked diurnal temperature variations during ripening, driven by the descent of cool pre-Alpine air along the slopes.
- Steep gradients and shallow soil depth available for root exploration promote consistent drainage and controlled water stress.
Terroir / wine link
- Diurnal temperature variations, caused by cool pre-Alpine air descending along the slopes, favour the aromatic ripening of the grapes.
