Terroir
Natural factors
- Isolated hill rising from the Po Plain, south of Milan, averaging 75 m in elevation with slopes exceeding 30%, extending 7 km east–west and approximately 2 km in width.
- Soils composed of more than 90% ancient, down-faulted fluvioglacial terraces; fine fluvial sediments to the south; recent alluvial deposits in the lower areas, crossed by the Cavo Nerone.
- Po Plain climate with annual rainfall of 700–800 mm; minima in summer and winter, maxima in spring and autumn.
- The southern slope features elongated valleys oriented toward the Po, shaped by direct erosion; the northern slope facing the Lambro has a more uniform profile.

- Recognized as an IGT in 1995 by Ministerial Decree of 18 November 1995, published in the Official Gazette no. 285 of 6 December 1995.
Product characteristics
- The denomination's red wines display well-balanced physico-chemical characteristics, with an organoleptic profile that is typified by and expressive of the hillside geographic environment.
