Natural factors
- Hilly zone with an average altitude of approximately 600 m above sea level, a key factor in grape quality.
- Soils of predominantly clayey composition with a sandy component, or sandy with a clayey component: neither excessively moist nor too acidic or alkaline.
- Warm temperate climate with diurnal temperature ranges that delay ripening by approximately 20 days compared to other Sicilian wine-growing zones.
- The DOC extends across the provinces of Palermo, Caltanissetta, and Agrigento, in the inland hilly area of Sicilia. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
Human factors
- Viticulture documented from the 14th century; around 1570, many hectares of vineyard were planted in the Feudo di Valle dell'Olmo.
- Traditional vendemmia tardiva: grapes left on the vine until late October to achieve full ripeness in favorable vintages.
Product characteristics
- A red wine from Nero d'Avola and Perricone: floral and spiced aromatics, with a tannic structure that allows for extended 'Riserva' aging.
