Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils on Upper Jurassic (Kimmeridgian and Portlandian), Cretaceous (Cenomanian, Turonian), or Eocene lacustrine limestones
- Rainfall ~650 mm/year, reduced by a foehn effect caused by the hills of the Sancerrois (434 m), which shelter the vines from humid westerly winds
- Degraded oceanic climate at the crossroads of oceanic and continental influences; the Loire acts as a thermal regulator
- Poudingue de Gien (equivalent to the poudingue de Nemours, Ypresian) at Myennes: rounded flint pebbles, sands, and clays deposited by the paleo-Loire (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
Product characteristics
- Dry whites: minerality, freshness, aromas of quince and white flowers; rosés: peppery notes on the attack, fruity on the finish.
- Light, low-tannin reds: aromas of small red and black fruits with spiced notes.
