Terroir
Natural factors
- The climate is predominantly moderately continental, with cold winters and warm summers; the eastern part experiences more pronounced temperature extremes.
- Submediterranean influences are rare – they are felt in winter during occasional warm southerly winds.
- Most vineyard sites (lege) lie on early Cretaceous brown and sandy marls and platy limestones with chert.
- The Škocjansko-šmarješke lege within the Novo Mesto district rest on a Miocene substrate of grey, white, and sandy brown marls and lithothamnian limestones.
Human factors
- Cviček has held PTP protection since 2001 and may be produced exclusively within a defined area using prescribed methods. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Maceration of the grape must is limited to a maximum of 4 days at a temperature below 22 °C, giving the wine a fresh character and low alcohol content.
Product characteristics
- The colour is ruby-light red; the aroma features small berries; the palate is light-bodied and fresh.
- Maceration of no more than 4 days below 22 °C defines the fresh character and an alcohol level of 8.5–10% vol.
Terroir / wine link
- The moderately continental climate, favourable distribution of rainfall, and geological conditions together shape the typical character of Cviček: freshness, lightness, and drinkability.
