Terroir
Natural factors
- Eastern massif: bedrock of Sarmatian limestones, clays, sandstones, dacitic tuffs, loess, and crystalline gravel — a lithological diversity markedly distinct from the western sector.
- On the hillsides, minimum temperatures are approximately 3 °C higher than on the plain, reducing the frequency of severe winters and eliminating the risk of bud frost.
Human factors
- Pre-phylloxera varieties: Gordin and Tămâioasă (whites), Negru moale, Negru vârtos, and Băbeasca neagră (reds, co-fermented as a blend).
Product characteristics
- Red wines from Ceptura, Tohani, and Merei: robust, full-bodied, and deeply coloured, owing to the high heliothermal resources and light-textured soils.
- White wines: a well-integrated balance of alcohol, acidity, and sugars, with aromas of exotic fruits, pear, jasmine, acacia, and mineral, citrus, and apricot notes; colour ranges from lemon-yellow to straw-yellow.
Terroir / wine link
- The skeletal, calcareous soils of the eastern part of the podgorie (Pietroasa, Breaza) impart a mineral character and complex floral aromas to the aromatic wines produced there.
