Terroir
Natural factors
- Climate of high sun exposure, elevated heat accumulation, and scarce rainfall during ripening, typical of desert conditions.
- Vineyards situated at approximately 500 m elevation, which moderates Mediterranean heat and preserves acidity.
- Slate soils that impart mineral notes to the red wines.
- Soils with a calcareous component that contribute structure and elegance to the reds.
- The geoclimatic conditions of the Desierto de Almería were officially recognised in 2003.
Human factors
- The IGP was officially recognised in July 2003 by the Junta de Andalucía.
- The profile of the reds includes mineral notes linked to slate soils and complexity derived from calcareous soils.
Product characteristics
- Reds: deep cherry-garnet to black cherry in colour, aromas of dark fruits, raisins, and balsamic notes; powerful and fleshy on the palate with a mineral undertone.
- Whites: straw yellow to pale gold with greenish highlights, floral and fruity aromas, rich and flavourful on the palate with balanced acidity.
Terroir / wine link
- The slate and partially calcareous soils lend the reds a mineral backbone, elegance, and a long finish with echoes of fruit.
