Natural factors
- Argillaceous, tufaceous, and calcareous soils, also in combination, characterize the vineyards of the DOCG.

Human factors
- Dolcetto spread throughout the Ovada area from the 1800s, to the point of being called 'Uva di Ovada' or, by naturalists, 'Uva Ovadensis'.
- The prescribed training system is the counter-trellis with upward-growing vegetation and guyot pruning, with a minimum vine density of 4,000 vines per hectare.
Product characteristics
- A wine of ready drinkability with moderate total acidity and alcohol content, yet possessing characteristics suited to aging.
