- Soils of allochthonous origin with good drainage and good water retention, sharing a common morenic origin across most of the territory.
- Insubric mesoclimate with Mediterranean characteristics: mild winters, moderate summers, with Lake Iseo acting as a thermal flywheel.
- Winkler bioclimatic index between 1,800 and 2,300 degree-days; annual precipitation approximately 1,000 mm, with 500–600 mm during the growing season.
Human factors
- Prehistoric grape seeds found at Provaglio d'Iseo attest to the spontaneous presence of the vine in Franciacorta since the pile-dwelling era.
