Terroir
Natural factors
- Entirely flat morphology, facing the Laguna di Marano and oriented toward Palmanova and Cervignano del Friuli. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Predominantly argille soils with a variable sandy component, formed from alluvial deposits rich in mineral detritus.
- Temperate climate with a mean annual temperature between 13 and 15 °C; mild winters with rare frosts thanks to the moderating influence of the sea.
- The bora wind (ENE) sweeps across the lower plain, reducing moisture stagnation; rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn.
Human factors
- The DOC takes its name from the Via Annia, the Roman consular road of 131 BC, with a viticultural vocation attested by wine amphorae and a donation by Patriarch Popone in 1031. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- The vineyards are trained predominantly to guyot, with residual plantings trained to Sylvoz and cappuccina (double arched cane).
Terroir / wine link
- The bora (ENE) disperses humid stagnation, limiting fungal pressure and promoting healthy grapes across the lagoon plain.
