Natural factors
- Columnar basalt formations of Parco San Marco: the dominant volcanic formation in the hilly zone of the appellation.

Human factors
- Viticulture documented before Roman times: remains of a 1st–2nd century Roman villa with a winery and grape seeds discovered at Montebello Vicentino.
- In 1468 Garganega spread across the hillsides; in 1947 the Cantina di Gambellara was founded by 26 local growers.
