Terroir
Natural factors
- Metamorphic bedrock: crystalline schist, agyagpala, sandstone, and gneiss – exposed at the surface through a tectonic window.
- Soil types: acidic barna erdőtalaj over agyagpala and gneiss; Pliocene loam and Pleistocene lösz at the footslopes.
- Relief: vineyards up to 450 m a.s.l., predominantly SE–E facing; south-facing exposures are rare (Kálvária-hegy, Római-domb).
- Phyllitic, quartzose bedrock with good drainage – saline minerality and taut acidity present in every wine.
Human factors
- The region is defined by knowledge passed down through generations: variety selection, yield management, ripeness decisions, and skin-contact maturation of red wines.
- A restrained combination of barrel and tank ageing: the tannins of the barrel do not dominate, and a fresh character is retained.
Product characteristics
- Taut, crunchy fruit and vibrant acidity; citrus notes in white wines, red-berry and spice in the reds.
- Saline minerality and at most medium body; restrained barrel ageing preserves the fresh character.
Terroir / wine link
