Natural factors
- Vineyards on the Vounaino plateau, at an elevation of 300–370 m, with pronounced relief and slopes of up to 10%.
- Medium-textured soils, predominantly sandy loam and clay loam, with good drainage and a neutral pH.
- Mild winters with rainfall and pronounced xerothermic conditions in summer; minimum temperature 3°C (January).
- Average maximum temperature of 29°C in July–August, requiring controlled irrigation.
- Soils rich in organic matter in the Κραννώνας area, particularly well-suited to viticulture.
Human factors
- Viticulture in the Κραννώνας area dating back to Byzantine times; refugees following the Asia Minor Catastrophe are documented as cultivating vineyards there.
- The phylloxera outbreak of the 20th century led to widespread uprooting of vines; the ΠΓΕ Κραννώνα was established to revive the local winemaking tradition.
