Terroir
Natural factors
- Three soil types: calcareous-sandstone hillsides, stony silty-sandy-clay glacis, and Rhône river terraces of rounded galets with a rubified matrix.
- Soils with good drainage capacity and moderate but sufficient water retention, without excess, regardless of the geo-morpho-pedological unit.
Human factors
- In 1375, 28 barrels of Laudun wine were transported to the papal cellar in Avignon; Olivier de Serres (1600) cited it among the finest white wines of France.
- The appellation was recognised by the tribunal of Uzès (6 Feb. 1947), then confirmed by decrees in 1953, 1967, and 1999; granted full AOC status on 21 Nov. 2024.
Product characteristics
- Reds: purple to garnet in colour, aromas of ripe and jammy small fruits, spice, liquorice, silky tannins, and a persistent finish.
- Whites: pale yellow with green to golden highlights, exotic fruits, white peach, apricot, white flowers, a broad and unctuous palate.
Terroir / wine link
- The soils provide the vine with a regular water supply, ensuring the summer ripening of the berries.
