Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils dominated by volcanic and basic volcanic-detrital material, moderately deep with sparse basaltic gravel near the surface and abundant at depth.
- Morphology of ridges and fan-shaped valleys oriented NNW–SSE, with an altitudinal range of approximately 800 m within the DOC area.
- Climate with annual rainfall of approximately 1,063 mm and a mean annual temperature of approximately 13.7 °C; precipitation levels support the high vigor of Durella.
- The area of over 30,000 hectares extends across the hilly portion of the eastern Lessini between the provinces of Verona and Vicenza.
- A direct link exists between basaltic soils and mineral sensory markers: notes of flint, iodine, and sulfur traceable to the volcanic origin.
Human factors
- The Durella variety is cited as early as 1290 in the Statuti di Costozza, documenting seven centuries of viticulture on the Monti Lessini.
- Predominant training systems: single or double pergola and guyot; the double veronese pergola open at the center, with a low bud load, is widely used.
Product characteristics
- Fine and persistent mousse, pale straw-yellow color with greenish highlights; aromas of chalk, iodine, elderflower, and hawthorn.
Terroir / wine link
- Basaltic volcanic soils are directly linked to the flint mineral notes considered the identity markers of Durello.
