Terroir
Natural factors
- The landscape is formed by the volcanic cones, domes, and ridges of the České středohoří; vineyards lie on the slopes of the deep Labe river valley.
- The geological bedrock is predominantly čedič; on the lower sections of the slopes it transitions to calcareous rock.
- Growing season (April–October): mean temperature 13.9 °C, sum of effective temperatures 1,008.6 °C, sunshine hours 1,270.2.
- The čedič bedrock of the viniční trať sites imparts a pronounced minerality to white pozdní sběr wines; calcareous bedrock reinforces the acid structure.
Human factors
- The sub-region was established in May 2004 under Wine Act No. 321/2004 Coll. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Vineyard yield must not exceed 14 t/ha; quality wine requires a minimum must weight of 15 °NM.
Product characteristics
- White pozdní sběr wines: yellow-green colour, aromas of green apple, peach, and citrus; characteristic 'green notes' of pea and asparagus derived from the climate; minerality from čedič and vápenec.
- Red quality wines: aromas of cherry, sour cherry, and dried plum; pronounced tannic structure; mineral notes from the čedič bedrock possible in pozdní sběr wines.
Terroir / wine link
- The minerality of white pozdní sběr wines is directly influenced by the čedič and calcareous geological bedrock of the viniční trať sites.
