Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils of calcareous 'terre rosse', clayey-silty with skeleton content up to 60% of total constituents.
- Warm, arid climate: approximately 70% of rainfall concentrated in autumn and winter; during the vegetative period (April–September) only ~300 mm, with summers occasionally receiving no precipitation at all.
- Minimum summer temperatures rarely fall below 18 °C; maximum temperatures rarely exceed 30 °C; frost is virtually absent.
- Soils rich in potassium and low in organic matter favour high-quality white-berried grape varieties.
Human factors
- Vineyards planted on dry-stone walls of Messapian and Peucetian origin; the stone is an integral part of the landscape alongside the Trulli.
- Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano have been selected to occupy contrasting niches: the former in cool valley floors, the latter on poor, sun-exposed ridges. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
Product characteristics
- Brilliant greenish colour, broad and intense fruity bouquet, dry and soft on the palate. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Verdeca contributes aroma and flavour; Bianco d'Alessano provides structure and body to the wine.
