Terroir
Natural factors
- Area restricted to the sole commune of Loupiac, on the right bank of the Garonne, approximately 40 km south-east of Bordeaux.
- A bedrock of "astéries" limestone covered by sandy-gravelly decalcification clays on the plateau and slopes.
Human factors
- After phylloxera, the vineyard was replanted with Sémillon B, Sauvignon B, and Muscadelle B, the varieties considered best suited to fine wines.
- Harvesting takes place in several manual passes selecting botrytised berries, with desiccation encouraged by the dry northerly and north-easterly winds that are frequent in October and November.
Product characteristics
- Wines that are at once delicate and lively, with great persistent aromatic complexity and fine freshness.
Terroir / wine link
- The climate favours noble rot; plots lacking drainage or situated on alluvial soils are excluded in order to preserve optimal botrytisation.
