Human factors
- Documented presence in Monferrato as early as the 13th century: the first vines of malvaxia, known as 'uve greche' (Greek grapes), are said to have arrived from the Greek port of Monemvasia by way of Venetian navigators.
- Malvasia di Casorzo is a dark-skinned variety with a short, compact cluster, forming the base (min. 90%) for sweet frizzante or spumante wines; Freisa, Grignolino, Barbera, and aromatic varieties are permitted as minor components.
Product characteristics
- The aromatic profile of Malvasia di Casorzo is dominated by fruity and floral notes: rose, peach, apricot, redcurrant, and raspberry.
- A sweet, frizzante or spumante wine; rarely also a passito, produced from dark-skinned Malvasia di Casorzo grapes with short, compact clusters.
