Terroir
Natural factors
- Zone covering the south-eastern quarter of France, divided into 5 sub-regions: Corse, Provence, Alpes du Sud, Vallée du Rhône, and the surrounding upland margins.
- Corse: granitic and schistose bedrock, Quaternary sedimentary formations to the east, limestone soils at Patrimonio; sunshine exceeding 2,500 hours per year.
- Two structurally important winds: the Mistral (northerly, cold and dry, promoting vine health) and the sea breeze (southerly, humid, moderating temperatures).
- The vineyard was established by the Phocaeans as early as the 6th century BC around Massalia (Marseille), the Rhône corridor, and Corse.
