- Soils of medium mechanical composition (sandy loam and sandy clay loam), neutral pH, and low calcium carbonate content.
- μεσογειακό κλίμα with pronounced ηπειρωτικό κλίμα tendencies: mean summer temperature 22.6 °C, 42 frost days, and 44 days of snowfall.
- Mean annual rainfall approximately 1,400 mm, with increased precipitation from October through April and a water deficit during the growing season.
Human factors
- A 1732 document records vineyards belonging to residents of Metsovo, with estimated production exceeding 300,000 okes of wine.
- In the late 1950s, Averoff planted the first Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Greece on the Giniets hill.

- The white wines of Metsovo are characterised as intensely aromatic, a quality attributed to the ορεινό μικροκλίμα of the mountain zone.
- The ΠΓΕ Metsovo carries a reputation as a wine with great ageing potential, produced from the highest-altitude vineyard in Greece.
