Terroir
Natural factors
- Predominant soils: eumesic regosol 40%, eubazic lithosol 40%, weakly eroded eumesic soil 20%, plus cernoziom and brown soil types.
- Skeletal, ferruginous soils with calcareous characteristics in the south-eastern zone — imparting a ruby colour and richness of tannins.
- Temperate-continental climate with Mediterranean influences (long, warm, dry autumns); monthly temperatures below 0 °C only in January–February.
- Rolling hill relief on the foothills of the Zarand Hills; slopes of 15–35% gradient with predominantly south or south-westerly aspect.
- The valleys retain summer morning dew until midday, preserving a natural acidity favourable for sparkling wines.
Human factors
- Viticulture in the Arad area documented since 1038; the locality of Miniș appears on a viticultural map in 1212.
- Cadarcă first produced in 1744 at Miniș; selective harvesting and Guyot Poussard pruning are practices characteristic of the area.
Product characteristics
- Red wines display a bright red colour with deep ruby reflections, rich in tannins and anthocyanins, requiring a minimum of 6 months in barrel.
- White and rosé wines present aromas of grapefruit and mango, with a non-reducing dry extract that rarely falls below 25 g/l.
Terroir / wine link
- The ferruginous skeletal soils endow red wines with a bright red colour with deep ruby reflections and expressive generosity.
