Natural factors
- Root depth ranges from over 150 cm on alluvial soils to less than 70 cm on turbidites and conglomerates.
Human factors
- Viticultural records date back to 1088; from the fourteenth century onward, municipal statutes protect the vine and wine through dedicated provisions.
- Traditional training systems: palmetta (initially), then cordone speronato and Guyot, both at low bud loads.
Product characteristics
- Montefalco rosso: ruby in color with aromas of cherry, raspberry, and blueberry; dry, harmonious, and medium-bodied. The Riserva shifts toward garnet with spiced and balsamic notes.
Terroir / wine link
- Argillaceous-calcareous soils with active calcare ranging from 5.5 to 9.2% promote the development of polyphenolic and pigment compounds in the grapes.
