- Semi-arid climate in summer; annual rainfall of 500–800 mm concentrated between December and February (60–80 rainy days).
Human factors
- A winemaking facility dating to 1602, hewn from calcare bedrock, was discovered in the 'Pedraia' area (Sorso).
- DOC status recognised by Presidential Decree of 31 March 1972, published in Official Gazette no. 193 of 26 July 1972.
Product characteristics

Terroir / wine link
- Soils developed over Miocene calcare and marne host the zone's most characteristic vineyards, with a loam-clay texture, sub-alkaline reaction, and good drainage.
