Terroir

• The vineyard benefits from an oceanic climate marked by low annual temperature variation, owing to the proximity of the ocean, the Loire estuary, Lac de Grandlieu, and the Goulaine marshes.
• Winters are particularly mild and summers remain cool, with ventilation provided by maritime breezes, while rainfall is slightly below average during the vine's growing season.
• The geological basement results from Precambrian and Primary Era orogenies that emplaced plutonic rocks such as granites and gabbros, as well as metamorphic rocks such as gneisses, mica schists, eclogites, and amphibolites.
• This basement is locally overlain by Tertiary sediments composed of clays and gravelly sands, while the aeolian silts deposited during the Quaternary have generally been stripped away by erosion.
• Despite the geological diversity of the zone, the soils that develop on these formations are most often brown, well-drained, sandy, and rich in stones; the delimited parcel area selects parcels with free-draining soils that warm up readily and have limited water-retention capacity.

• The Melon de Bourgogne variety, being more frost-resistant, was preferentially replanted in the best sites following the severe winter of 1709, which had destroyed a large part of the Nantes vineyard.
• Producers separate the wine from its fine lees early in the winemaking process in order to differentiate the wines of the regional Muscadet appellation from the more restricted appellations such as Muscadet Sèvre et Maine.

• The wines of the appellation are still white wines displaying fine and delicate aromas, most often in a fruity or floral range.
• The overall palate balance is dominated by freshness, which is consistent with the slight acidity and refreshing light spritz noted elsewhere.

• The coarse texture of the soils ensures an early start to the vine's growth cycle and limits its vigour, while the mildness of the winters further accentuates this early development.
• The soils ensure a moderate and regular water supply to the vine — a guarantee of good ripeness — thanks to their limited water reserve and their fracturing, which allows deep root penetration.
