Terroir
Natural factors
- Geology: Devonian rocks (sandstones, clay slates, quartzites) and metamorphic greenschists/phyllites form the oldest formations.
- Rotliegendes dominates in terms of surface area; volcanic rocks (latites, andesites, basalts) are also present.
- Tertiary soils: fluvial sands, coastal sands, and marine Mergel also occur.
- Climate: mean annual temperature 9.3 °C, growing season average 13.8 °C, mean annual precipitation 580 mm (60 % falling during the growing season).
- Topography: average elevation approx. 210 m above sea level; Steillage and very steep sites present; the region forms a triangle between Bingen, Alsenz, and Monzingen.
Human factors
- Steillage and very steep sites are part of viticultural practice within the Nahe region.
- The Anbaugebiet lies within the triangle of Bingen–Alsenz–Monzingen, encompassing three distinct natural landscape units.
Terroir / wine link
- Rotliegendes soils (including volcanics such as latites, andesites, and basalts) are the most widespread rock types and define the terroir of the Nahe.
Facts drawn from the cahier's terroir-link section (Lien au terroir) by automatic interpretation — see the source.
