Terroir
Natural factors
- Soils with loamy to clayey texture derived from brown and red limestones, spanning parts of four municipalities.
- The permitted soils include normal or para-brown brown or red limestones and brown or red Mediterranean soils.
- The landscape is defined by a succession of hills and knolls descending from the slopes of the Serra de Montejunto toward the northwest.
- The DO covers parts of the municipalities of Bombarral, Cadaval, Caldas da Rainha, and Óbidos.
- The whites show mineral nuances, linked to the calcareous nature of the region's soils.
Human factors
- The vine has always held a prominent place in Óbidos, an important agricultural region preserved within the medieval walls dating from the 14th century.
- The DO Óbidos white wines display fruity and floral aromas with subtle mineral touches, produced on brown or red calcareous soils.
Product characteristics
- Reds in ruby hues, soft and fruit-forward; fresh whites with floral aromas and delicate mineral touches.
- White sparkling wines with a fine and persistent mousse, fruity aromas, and a well-judged balance between acidity and freshness.
Terroir / wine link
- Brown and red calcareous soils yield whites with subtle mineral touches and fruit-driven reds of gentle structure.
