Natural factors
- 7 communes in Haute-Corse, in the Nebbiu region (meaning 'mist' in Corsican), opening onto the Gulf of Saint-Florent.
- A bedrock of oceanic schistes lustrés, overlaid to the west by sedimentary deposits and to the east by crystalline inputs.
- Two dominant seasonal winds: the Maestrale (north-west) and the Libecciu (south-west), both exerting a strong influence on the vegetation.
Human factors
- As early as 1942, producers submitted an AOC application; the recognition decree was signed in spring 1968. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- In the 18th century, wines from the Nebbiu earned the right to be exported if they could withstand a voyage under sail: the so-called 'vini navigati'.
Product characteristics
- Reds (nielluccio ≥ 90%): ruby-to-garnet colour, aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry evolving toward spice, toasted and balsamic notes, with good ageing potential.
