Natural factors
- Vineyards ranging from sea level up to 600–700 m a.s.l., with the town center of Motta San Giovanni situated at 515 m on a hill 7 km from the coast.
- Dominant substrate: Miocene argille-arenaria formations alongside Pliocene sandy deposits throughout the entire southern Calabrian sector.
- An area facing the Strait of Messina, in the vicinity of Punta di Pellaro, with direct marine influence on the local environmental conditions.
- A pedological area of marked soil diversity, owing to morphological variability, differing substrates, and varying degrees of weathering over time.
Human factors
- Low alberello training (50 cm), the traditional local form adopted to adapt to the dry climate of the Reggio Calabria coast.
