Terroir
Natural factors
- Granite known as 'de Fleurie': weathered into highly permeable sandy arenas, forming the bedrock of the appellation
- Altitude of the delimited plots: 250 m to 450 m on hillsides with a granitic substratum
- Appellation spanning 2 communes (Régnié-Durette and Lantignié, Rhône), bounded to the south by the Ardières, a tributary of the Saône
Human factors
- Régnié was granted AOC status by decree on 20 December 1988; as early as 1769, it was one of the 16 Beaujolais parishes authorised to ship their wines to Paris.
- Winemaking combining traditional fermentation and semi-carbonic maceration; short pruning and high vine density to manage Gamay N, a variety that is productive but low in vigour.
Product characteristics
- Colour: violet-red evolving toward garnet; on the nose: floral notes and red fruits, with spice emerging over time.
- On the palate: a clean attack, finesse, suppleness and abundant fruit; silky tannins, a fleshy, pulpy wine.
Terroir / wine link
- Sandy, acidic soils on granitic arenas → fruity, elegant wines; clay-dominant soils → more structured wines
