Natural factors
- Vineyard split into 2 distinct parcels 7 km apart, spanning 6 communes on the Indre/Cher border, southwest of Bourges.
- Hillside soils: brown calcareous soils derived from Kimmeridgian marls.
- Alluvial terrace soils: ancient sands and gravels.
- Semi-continental climate with oceanic influence; a hydrographic mesoclimate that moderates temperature fluctuations during the growing season.
- Annual rainfall of approximately 600 mm; summers are sunny, warm, and dry.
Human factors
- Sauvignon B was introduced in the 13th century by the Benedictine monks of Beauvoir; the white AOC was officially recognised on 9 September 1937.
Terroir / wine link
- Shallow soils over Kimmeridgian limestone on south- and southeast-facing slopes promote drainage and early ripening of the Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir varieties.
