Terroir
Natural factors
- Oceanic-humid climate: ~2,100 sunshine hours, rainfall of 1,300–1,800 mm, and a narrow thermal range (7.3–25.7 °C) during the growing season.
- The surrounding mountain ranges buffer summer rainfall and introduce a Mediterranean influence in summer, with mean temperatures of ~18 °C.
- Hillside vineyards with gentle slopes, almost always below 150 m above sea level, planted in moderately acidic, permeable soils of loam or sandy-loam texture.
- The lithological substrate is dominated by Hercynian granite outcrops and sparsely metamorphosed sedimentary rocks.
- Distinctive growing conditions include sandy soils and dune formations, as well as granite-rock hillsides, characteristic of the zone.
Human factors
- The varieties employed are exclusively indigenous, adapted to the coastal environment and used as a defining human differentiating factor.
- Traditional training and pruning methods favour low-growing forms and high vine density in order to maximise exposure to maritime influences.
Product characteristics
- Whites: bright golden-yellow hues, floral and fruit aromas, a light and fresh palate, with citrus notes on the finish.
- Reds: medium-depth colour, cherry-red tones with violet highlights, medium structure, aromas of red and wild fruits, and a lightly tannic finish.
Terroir / wine link
- Hercynian granite soils, permeable and moderately acidic, promote freshness and aromatic expression in both whites and reds.
