Natural factors
- Soils of limestone origin, infertile and χαλικώδες, on semi-mountainous sloping sites below 1,000 m.
- Rich geology dominated by a limestone cap; relief characterised by intense folding and faulting.
- Average winter rainfall of 1,200 mm/year; the dry summer is offset by cool nocturnal sea breezes.
- Mountainous relief reaching up to 1,628 m (Mégas Sorós of Ainos); the vineyard is developed across two poljes, Ομαλών and Τρωιαννάτων.
- West–southwest vineyard aspect; proximity to the sea and the fir forest of Ainos shapes the microclimate.
Human factors
- First written record of Ρομπόλα in an ecclesiastical property census document (1520); a further reference appears in a letter of 1544.
Product characteristics
- Pale greenish colour with golden-yellow highlights; aromas of citrus blossom, peach, citron, and apple of medium intensity.
- Crisp, pronounced acidity with a 'metallic sharpness', full palate, long finish, and a mineral presence.
Terroir / wine link
- The infertile limestone soils express themselves in the wine as a 'metallic sharpness' and mineral presence.
