Natural factors
- A N/S tectonic relief feature of approximately 25 km separating limestone plateaux (400–500 m) to the west from the Bresse plain (~250 m) to the east.
- Temperate oceanic climate with continental and southern influences; ~750 mm/year, mean annual temperature 10.5°C; sheltering effect of the Morvan massif. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Gently east-facing plots between 260 and 270 m in altitude, on a substrate of Bajocian marls and crinoidal limestones.
- Zone restricted to the single commune of Vosne-Romanée (Côte-d'Or); total area of 1 hectare 80.5 ares.
Human factors
- The vineyard was purchased in 1760 by Louis-François de Bourbon, Prince de Conti, who gave it his name; it was sold as national property in 1794.
Product characteristics
- On the nose, young fruit and undergrowth/leather aromas evolve toward subtle floral notes, with exceptional aromatic persistence on the palate.
- Ageing potential: the wine only reveals its full qualities after a minimum of 15 years; some sources cite 20 to 40 years. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
Terroir / wine link
- Clay topsoils retaining moisture combined with a free-draining limestone subsoil provide optimal water balance; the elevated position above the plain offers protection from fog and frost. (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
