Natural factors
- Zone between 200 and 500 m above sea level, covering the hilly belt and plain, excluding the mountain portion.
- Prealpi Varesine: substrate of cherty limestones with dolomitic and marly limestones, slopes with gradients of 0–45%.
- Eastern morainic hills of the Verbano: non-calcareous gravels, sands, and silts, with outcrops of conglomerates and arenaria.
- Soil pH moderately acid (5.5–6.0) in the first metre; locally strongly acid (pH < 5) or neutral around Lago di Varese.

- Grape varieties historically present throughout the hilly and piedmont area of the Province of Varese, between 200 and 500 m above sea level.
- Moderately acid soils (pH 5.5–6.0) on glacial and fluvioglacial substrates, with medium-textured profiles in the central zone.
