Terroir
Natural factors
- "Marnoso-arenacea" Formation: alternating layers of turbiditic arenaria and marne, it is the most extensive formation of the Romagnol Apennines.
- "Vena del gesso": Messinian evaporitic rocks (gesso, anhydrite, rock salt) deposited when the Mediterranean became isolated from the Atlantic.
- Pliocene deposits with a predominantly argille character form the typical "calanchi" in the lower valleys; Quaternary foothill soils are generally decarbonated.
- Three distinct geomorphological zones: alluvial plain (loamy-clay texture), foothill belt (recent Quaternary), and true hillside terrain.
Human factors
- Hillside alberello of Greek origin persists sporadically; on the plain, vines were trained up tall trees to escape late frost and humidity.
- The mixed "piantata" cultivation system, widespread from the 15th century, reached its peak under the Mezzadria sharecropping system in the 18th century, cultivating on three superimposed levels.
Product characteristics
- Rosato Sangiovese: aromas ranging from violet florals to red fruits (strawberry, raspberry, cherry, redcurrant), fresh palate with well-balanced acidity.
- Rubicone whites: floral notes of acacia and hawthorn, harmonious, fresh and sapid profile, color ranging from straw yellow to golden.
