Terroir
Natural factors
- Two major soil groups: Ordovician gritty schists and lower Visean carboniferous schists (two-thirds of the surface area) in the north; clay-limestone soils in the south (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
- Acidic carboniferous schistous soils, low in organic matter, frequently requiring liming; excellent drainage ensuring a regular water supply to the vines
- The vineyard is sheltered from northerly winds by the Espinouse, oriented south/south-east, up to 400 m in altitude; the Orb valley is deeply incised in the schistous sector and more open in the clay-limestone sector (via Wikipedia · CC BY-SA 4.0)
