Natural factors
- Sedimentary geology: the production area is characterised by lithologies of a sedimentary nature.
- Two pedological environments: recent coastal-plain sediments and alluvial deposits from watercourses on one side, Pleistocene terraced alluvial fans on the other.
- Humid to sub-humid climate with rainfall concentrated in December, a pluviometric minimum in July, and a modest summer water deficit.
- Average annual precipitation of 950 mm; average annual temperature of 16.1 °C.
- Hill zone in the communes of Falerna and Nocera Terinese, in the province of Catanzaro.
Product characteristics
- Ruby red of varying intensity, dry and full-bodied; in its early youth it expresses notes of vanilla and honey.
Terroir / wine link
- Soils ranging from coastal alluvial deposits to Pleistocene terraced alluvial fans; a sub-humid climate with a summer water deficit favours aromatic concentration (vanilla, honey).
